Quest Overview

After proving your skill in the Ninja Academy, the Spectral Nanjou assign you the task of infiltrating the enemy Tanada training facility.

You must have completed the Ninja Academy at least once to start this quest. This quest (completion of both tasks at least once) is a prerequisite for the Nanjou Stockade quest.

Walk Through

1. Speak to Kousha and Kinchou, NPCs in Hoshino Town #3. They are side by side on the second floor of a house. Note the house is not safe, and creatures spawn on both floors.
   • Route: Stonehold to Desolation Beach Settlement (69.7N, 20.2W), then run to 78.4N 40.5W.
2. Kinchou gives you the task of intercepting coded messages of the Tanada, while Kousha gives you the task of killing 6 Tanada Neophytes and retrieving their masks.
3. Head to the Tanada Toresen Temple. The drop is safe.
   • Route: Hebian-To to South Shoushi Villas (41.5S, 82.1E), then run to 42.7S, 72.4E.

Tanada Slaughter

1. [Optional] Near the drop, talk to Tanada Kuteki. He offers to give you a reward if you return the 6 mask to him rather than Kousha.
2. Find and kill 6 Tanada Neophytes and loot their masks. Everyone in the fellow needs their own 6 kills and 6 masks.
   • Warning: Beware! The Tanada Nanjou Gunjinn and Tanada Nanjou Tureinaa guarding the Tanada Neophytes hit extremely hard. It is advisable you fight in the narrow hallways, using some members of the fellow as a wall while the rest kill then switching roles. You may also want to assign a dedicated healer.
3. From the drop there are doors to the north and south. These lead to an outer corridor which leads to large rooms to the east and west.
   • Heading east leads to nothing but Tanada and dead ends. Go this way if you need to kill lots of Neophytes to get enough masks.
   • Heading west leads to lots of Tanada, and the paths to the boss rooms and a Chorizite Chest. If your group is smaller, go this way to collect masks.
4. [Optional] After completing the kill task and mask collection, you can return to the dungeon drop and give them to Tanada Kuteki for a Legendary Key and a Coded Note from Tanada Kutekei. Note that portal recall will not drop you in the dungeon.
   • Important Note: The coded note can be turned in to Kousha for the same rewards as turning in the 6 masks. The lore and dialog seems to indicate that this still flags you for the next quest in the series, Nanjou Stockade. However, this has yet to be tested!
   • Either way you complete this quest still counts toward the Legendary Quests count.

Tanada Intercept

1. Once you have completed the mask collection and kill task, make your way into the room 'west of the drop.
   • Taking the path north between the first 2 rooms eventually leads to a dead end room with a Chorizite Chest.
2. Proceed through the room to the next large room to the west.
3. Just before the entrance to the 3rd room to the west is a hallway with doors leading both north and south. Both paths lead to a room with the boss. It does not matter which path you take.
   • Option 1: To the north is a large room with a jumping puzzle. There are many wave spell traps below. Most are 1/2 or 2/3 shift jumps. If you fall, you can run back up and try again but beware of the traps below.
   • Option 2: To the south is a series of hallways with lots of slash vuln traps and slash spell traps. You will have to open many doors and fight a few scattered Tanada as you progress, so stay dispelled and healed as much as possible.
4. After taking either option, you will eventually reach a room with the boss Tanada Nanjou Jogensha and 2 Tanada Nanjou Gunjinn. Kill the boss and loot a Coded Tanada Scroll and a Legendary Key from him (he drops 9 of each). Use the key on the nearby chests.

Rewards

1. Go back to the Kinchou and Kousha in Hoshino Town and turn in the scroll and masks or coded note.
2. Turning in both items flags you for the next quest in the series, Nanjou Stockade.

Kinchou tells you, "Darviss tells me you have great potential. I have my doubts about that, but I have been instructed to enlist you for a mission of great importance."
Kinchou tells you, "Inside of the temple in the distant south near 42.5S, 72.3E you will find the Tanada training their newest recruits. It is here where the Tanada are hiding valuable information we seek."
Kinchou tells you, "Our spies tell us that several Jogensha Shou-Jen are within these walls and carry vital information we must possess."
Kinchou tells you, "A mortal would not be my first choice to bestow such a crucial task, but the decision was not mine to make. We cannot risk an all out war with the Tanada if my kind are discovered raiding a Tanada temple...not yet."
Kinchou tells you, "Do not disappoint us. We do not deal well with failure."

Kousha tells you, "Darviss advised me of your potential. We will put this to the test."
Kousha tells you, "The Tanada clan continues to recruit and train new blood, ensuring a strong and prosperous future. This we cannot allow."
Kousha tells you, "Kill the seed before it sprouts and the field will never grow."
Kousha tells you, "Surely she will see this as an act of a mighty and loyal warrior."
Kousha tells you, "Far to the southwest around 42.5S, 72.3E is a temple where the Tanada train their new recruits."
Kousha tells you, "Enter this temple, slay 6 of these upstarts and collect the masks from each of the 6 slaughtered. We have something in mind for these aspiring Tanada, something glorious!"
Kousha begins to laugh.
Kousha tells you, "We have recently learned the Tanada are stepping up their training. Our spies spotted a Tanada Kuteki inside of the Temple, one of the wisest and most skilled among their clan. This can only mean they are ramping up for something. We must remain vigilant!"

Tanada Kuteki tells you, "I know why you are here. I know who sent you."
Tanada Kuteki tells you, "I have no intention of stopping you or alerting the warriors within these walls to your presence."
Tanada Kuteki tells you, "Although I will not allow the souls of the young to be manipulated to their side."
Tanada Kuteki tells you, "I offer you a choice."
Tanada Kuteki tells you, "Complete your task as you were instructed, this will benefit everyone involved. But, return the masks to myself when you are finished."
Tanada Kuteki tells you, "I will reward you handsomely, far more than your current employer could hope to."
Tanada Kuteki tells you, "The decision is yours to make. I suggest you consider my offer, it is beyond fair."

Kousha tells you, "Have you slaughtered their recruits? Give me the masks I requested if so. We must send a message that joining the Tanada will only ensure defeat."
You allow Kousha to examine your Tanada Neophyte's Mask.
You hand over all of your Tanada Neophyte's Masks.
You've earned 300,000,000 experience.

Kousha gives you 9 Trade Notes (250,000).
Kousha tells you, "Excellent work. Once again Darviss displays his skill at finding worthy beings!"
Kousha's bony fingers take the bloody masks from your hand and he begins to chant unfamiliar words.
A bone-chilling breeze sweeps through the room and 6 Spectral Nanjou Shou-jen suddenly appear!
Kousha tells you, "The Tanada are weaker now. We are closer to our goal of eliminating them from our midst."
Kousha tells you, "She will be pleased with your work; you have done well. We have no further need for your services at this time."
Kousha tells you, "Seek out Shorikan at once. We are on the brink, we must see this through to the end."
Kousha says, "You Nanjou belong to her now. You will serve her will. You will obey. Begone from my sight!"

Kinchou tells you, "Do you have any news? If you have found the information I requested, hand it to me."
You allow Kinchou to examine your Coded Tanada Scroll.
You hand over all of your Coded Tanada Scrolls.

Kinchou tells you, "Fine work for a mortal. I was sure you would fail and the Tanada would be torturing you as we speak."

Notes

• During the Balance of Power event, the key reward was changed from a Mana Forge Key to a Legendary Key. The NPC for an extra Legendary Key was also added to the temple dungeon.
• During The Quest for Freedom event, the luminance reward for each task was increased from 9,000 to 15,000 and the experience reward for each was increased from 250,000,000 to 300,000,000.
