| Text = How useful are the current letter indices? With quests being split up into multiple pages, it is not really useful for locating a quest by its reward. It is not useful for sorting by timer, group/solo, exp reward, title reward.
I would suggest the following solution for locating quests:
* When possible, all the various names for a quest should be created as redirect pages for the proper quest. These redirect pages should be tagged as Category:Quest so they are listed in the category.
* If looking for a quest for a specific item, locate the quest by finding that item's page.
* If looking for a quest for a specific title, locate the quest by using a search for the title. All titles, when possible, should redirect to their quest. When not possible, a note should be left. For example, Assassin is a creature and a title. A note should be placed at the top of the Assassin creature page directing someone to the Assassin's Roost quest.
* If looking for high experience quests, the XP Quests exists - it could use better maintaining, but it is there.
* If looking for a quest by its type (solo, fellowship, etc), there should be new category pages to find these. I would suggest a change to the quest guide template. If a quest is listed as Solo in the Quest Summary for example, code should be added to the template so that Category:Solo Quest is automatically added to the page.
When this is complete, we should remove the Quest by letter pages. The main Quests page should contain links to Quest by Patch, Category:Quest, Category:Killtask, Xp Quests, Category:Title Reward, and possibly the newly created type categories, e.g. Category:Solo Quest.

I decided to break up the page into separate entries. We lose the crtl-F function to find quests, but the page was getting too big, and it hardly even listed all the quests we have. --An Adventurer 10:27, 24 October 2008 (CDT)

Since the information is quite variable from entry to entry, we lose the benefits of having one big table that's sortable. Would it be a good idea to move to a mutli table page with regular indices like is the case for Dungeons to make it easier to jump to the section you're looking for? --Tlosk 14:15, 1 August 2008 (CDT)

To cut down on the size of this page, I'd like to suggest moving the killtask section to a new page. This page could be included as a link in the top banner. --An Adventurer 11:18, 25 July 2008 (CDT)

Sounds good to me. I was collecting info on this very thing this morning after reading a post on turbine boards asking about this (I was going to populate the blank column that's there now) but I like your idea better. Also I've been playing around with tables to get columns and I've got it pretty much working (so it wouldn't be a single huge long list going down the page).

New idea for the quest page: replace the introduced in column with timer. Then, we create a new page that lists all quests by patch with only a link to the quest and no additional info. Basically, the "quest by patch" page would be set up like maggie's quest page post ToD.

So I merged titles and item rewards into one, and I've left a blank column for patch added. I was thinking about it, and the month added might not be as useful as just dividing up the table by patch, with the table for the newest patch at the top. And then, we can replace the "introduced in" column with a timer column, since I think that is some very important info.

This would make no difference if doing a Find operation for a specific title, but would make it a lot easier to scan for quests to do (less chaff, the first table would be the ones people do all the time). This is just a back burner idea though, I'm not sure if it would be a good idea versus having them all in a single table. The cuts were nonarbitrary for another entry, Rares, but it's the same general idea.

one thought I had was that we could remove the title column completely and instead add a link at the top of the page that says "For a list of titles and their associated quests see the Titles page. That would allow us to fit either timers or date/patch added. Or, we could merge the title and other rewards into just Rewards. I think that would actually work fairly well.  There are only a handful of quests that would have a rather large row due to this, and they are Prodigal drudge/lugian/olthoi and colosseum champions so far. And there are only a handful of other quests I can think of that would have large rows: Gaerlan, BM quests, Burun Kings. And if we really want to, we can shorten up the Rewards area by saying something like "Gaerlan... Items: Olthoi Slaying Weapons (See quest for full list), Gaerlan's Robe, Martine's Robe, Martine's Mask"

Soon as I finish getting the monsters and dungeons listed I'm going to start working on backfilling the quest writeups. I like the idea of maybe adding another list or two but it's a good idea to wait and let the possible formats percolate. Also I'm working on a utility that can take an existing table and let you add/remove columns and add or remove formating markup for an entire column at once. I think it will work but we'll see.

I agree it'd be useful, but like you said, the quest list is already pretty full. If we were going to add anything else to the quest list I'd want to add timers. But I don't think we should add anything else to the list without first redesigning the whole thing. I think its fine as is - it provides a lot of useful info. If people want to see newer quests they can always go to the patch list. Or we could create a new page/section on the quest page with a simple list of what quests were added on each patch - basically what maggie's quest page looks like.

Quest Pages Organization

Now that quests are on pages by letter, I propose we give alias names their own entry and redirect them to the page writeup. I've had a few people mention to me trouble finding quests when they looked under the wrong letter (of an alias).--Tlosk 18:16, 17 May 2009 (UTC)

How useful are the current letter indices? With quests being split up into multiple pages, it is not really useful for locating a quest by its reward. It is not useful for sorting by timer, group/solo, exp reward, title reward.

I would suggest the following solution for locating quests:

 • When possible, all the various names for a quest should be created as redirect pages for the proper quest. These redirect pages should be tagged as Category:Quest so they are listed in the category.
 • If looking for a quest for a specific item, locate the quest by finding that item's page.
 • If looking for a quest for a specific title, locate the quest by using a search for the title. All titles, when possible, should redirect to their quest. When not possible, a note should be left. For example, Assassin is a creature and a title. A note should be placed at the top of the Assassin creature page directing someone to the Assassin's Roost quest.
 • If looking for high experience quests, the XP Quests exists - it could use better maintaining, but it is there.
 • If looking for a quest by its type (solo, fellowship, etc), there should be new category pages to find these.

Those are all great ideas. I think it would work a lot better and would stay maintained automatically. And as the quest by patch is probably the most used page, that will be searchable as well once we get it fully populated. --Tlosk 21:11, 17 May 2009 (UTC)

--Tlosk 18:07, 7 March 2008 (CST)I know it's already crowded but would it be worthwhile to have a column with the date of the patch it went in? The date rather than the patch name so it would take less space, and then it could be made sortable so that you could sort the quests so that all the recent ones were together to see ones you may have missed doing. Once we get all the quests plugged in the list is going to be pretty massive. Perhaps convert the titles column into a Yes No so it takes up less space? Since usually you're just interested in if the quest gives a title, and you can always click on the quest if you want to know what the actual title is (perhaps have the column heading double as a link to the titles article? Like this Gives<br>Title

--An Adventurer 13:07, 5 December 2007 (CST)

I think we may want to redesign the quest table. There is a lot of useful info in it, but it looks very crowded now.

Current Version:

Quest Name Common Name Min
Lvl
Suggested
Lvl
XP Type XP Reward XP Cap Title Reward Other Rewards
Aerbax's Prodigal Lugian Shadow Kresovus 150 150 Group
200 Solo
Percent ??% 162,415,717 Guardian of Linvak Tukal Balor's Robe, upgraded Arm, Mind, and Heart items

Suggestion: Cut some clutter from current version

Quest Name Level Requirements Quest Type Max XP Reward Title Reward Other Rewards
Aerbax's Prodigal Lugian
AKA Shadow Kresovus
Minimum: 150
Suggested: 170
Solo/Small Group 162,415,717 Guardian of Linvak Tukal Balor's Robe, upgraded Arm, Mind, and Heart items

The full info on the exp, such as the percentage and level cap, would go only on the quest summary on the quest's page.
