Overview

This quest covers creating the basic Composite Bow, Composite Crossbow, and Composite Atlatl. Once you create your weapon, you may proceed to the Composite Weapons Upgrade quest to enhance it.

There are 18 variations of the Composite Bow, 18 variations of the Composite Crossbow, 54 variations of the Composite Bow with Handle, and 54 variations of the Composite Crossbow with Handle. For all possible weapons, see Composite Weapons Quest/Full Rewards.

The best possible Composite Bows and Crossbows are made from Great Mattekar Horns, Ravener Guts, Large Lugian Sinews, and a Dark Revenant Thighbone. For these weapons, see the rewards section.

The Atlatl, which was a later addition, only has 4 variations. For these weapons, see the rewards section.

Gathering Trophies

For the Great Mattekar Horn, hunt Great Mattekars. The best location to do this is the Mattekar Cave near Neydisa Castle, but they can also be found as landscape spawns in locations such as the Lost Wish Mountain Range.

For the Fire Auroch Horn, hunt Auroch Fire Bulls or the Master of the Herd. Fire auroch herds can be found at the following points of interest:

• 11.5N, 37.9E - Auroch Herd
• 29.6N, 39.1W - Fire Auroch Heard and Reedshark Pack
• 26.9N, 39.0W - Fire Auroch Heard
• 80.7S, 34.5W - Auroch Herd

For the Large Lugian Sinew, hunt mid to high level lugians, such as Gotrok Gigas, Gotrok Montok, Gotrok Extas, Gotrok Tiatus, Gigas Raider, Extas Raider, and Tiatus Raider. These creatures may be found in the following dungeons: Hills Citadel, Wilderness Citadel, Ridge Citadel, Old Mine, Linvak Tukal Entryway, and Lugian Excavations

For the Small Lugian Sinew, hunt low to mid level lugians, such as Gotrok Amploth, Gotrok Obeloth, Gotrok Lithos, Amploth Raider, Obeloth Raider, and Lithos Raider. These creatures may be found in the following dungeons: Hills Citadel, Forking Trail, Trialos, Lugian Post, Lugian Outpost, and Lugian Quarry.

The Composite Bow and Crossbow

Step 1: Crafting the Stave

1. Hunt Great Mattekars until you find two Great Mattekar Horns. (VERY low drop rate)
2. Head to Ayan Baqur and hand your two Great Mattekar Horns to Yuan Hanzu. You'll receive two Shaped Great Mattekar Horns.
3. Hunt Lugians until you find two Large Lugian Sinews.

You expertly cure the lugian sinew.

You combine the horn and sinew into a bow arm.

1. Repeat this step to get 2 arms for the stave.

You combine the two arms into a stave.

Step 1b: Crafting the Stock for the Crossbow

1. Hunt Golems made of wood such as Wood Golems, Small Wood Golems and Forest Lords until you find a Wood Heart.
2. Hand your Wood Heart to Barnar the Tinker in Cragstone at 25.3N 49.1E to receive a Crossbow Stock.

Step 2: Crafting the String

1. Hunt Drudge Raveners until you find three Ravener Guts.

1. Attach the string to the bow stave or crossbow stock with stave (weapon skill check).

Step 3: Adding a Handle

1. Notes:
   • If you want to add the highest tier handle, skip this step and go directly to the Composite Weapons Upgrade quest.
   • You can upgrade the handle to your weapon at any time by simply adding another Bone Handle to your weapon.
2. Hunt Dark Revenants (some other Undead Creatures also drop the thighbone) until you find a Dark Revenant Thighbone.

The Composite Atlatl

Step 1: Crafting the Stave

1. Hunt Great Mattekars until you find two Great Mattekar Horns.
2. Head to Ayan Baqur and hand your two Great Mattekar Horns to Havala bint Mylos. You'll receive two Carved Great Mattekar Horns.
3. Hunt Lugians until you find two Large Lugian Sinews.

4. Repeat this step to get 2 arms for the stave.

5. Next you need to strengthen the stave using Grievver Spike Oil.

Step 2: Strengthening the Stave

1. Hunt Spiked Grievvers until you find three Grievver Spikes (low drop rate).

3. Use the oil on the stave to strenthen it (Alchemy Skill Check).

There are other bones on the upper levels of the cave that I can use as well."
