|valign=top| Dericost
Beginning of the Age of Dericost.
<br /><br />
Although uncontested in the rule of its continent for thousands of years, the Kingdom of Dericost truly rises to prominence with the arrival of the Falatacot refugees, who flee the island of Dereth due to global cooling of Auberean. In exchange for sanctuary in Dericost lands, the Falatacot share their worship of the Old Ones and their magical knowledge. They specifically share their knowledge of blood, death and entropy magics.

|valign=top| Dericost
While most Falatacot practice their magic within ethical bounds, the Dericost know no such bounds. Soon the Dericost nobility comes across the darkest of the Falatacot refugees' rituals which hold out the promise of eternal life. The Dericost are not aware that these magics involve the death of the physical body and the tying of the person's spirit to its decaying form. Once the initial shock of this discovery wears off, the Dericost find this an acceptable price to pay and many of the nobility transform themselves into undead. Among the first is a figure called His Eternal Splendor, along with those in his inner circle, Lady Aerfalle and Lord Rytheran.

In the fifth year of the reign of His Majesty King Braletain of Haebrous, a tribe of Ruschk in the frigid northern edge of the Kingdom of Haebrous is slain to make way for a mercantile company's gemstone excavations. The only survivor of this tribe, Grael, is brought back to the Royal Menagerie. Carraida, the young Queen of Haebrous, begged her husband to send Grael to gladiatorial pits for her amusement. Two seasons later, The Grael Rebellion occurs. Grael and some of his fellow slaves overpower the arena guards and take over the entire building. Ten thousand Haebreans and no small number of visiting Yalaini and Dericostians die. Queen Carraida, who was present at the arena, is killed by Grael in an act of vengeance. The rebellion spills out into the streets. On the third day of the rebellion the royal army corners the slaves in the West Market. The King orders royal mages to incinerate the entire market square with a rain of magical fire that lasts almost a full day. During the rebellion, four slave brothers, Baranaith, Farelaith, Hiranaith, and Korogaith, escape from the capital of Haebrous and flee to the coast. They commandeer a ship from a small fishing village south of the capital and put out to sea. None of them know how to sail, and drift out to sea. Some time later they arrive on Dereth near a rivermouth. They head inland towards a forest, and encounter Grael. The brothers join Grael in his journey north to find a dark power. Grael finds what he was seeking, and is wrapped in Living Darkness, tranformed into the Black Spear of the Kemeroi. Baranaith, Hiranaith, and Korogaith are changed to Shadows, while Farelaith flees.

A meteorological phenomenon known as the Black Rains begin. It has been said that the Empyreans ignored the celestial fiery visitor seen in the night skies until, one night, it completely disappeared. Soon afterward, roiling black clouds raining ash and soot darkened the skies.
<br /><br />
The Yalaini see the darkness enveloping the world as a sign that the Light has rejected them. Yalaini Elders blame the Dericost for this event.
<br /><br />
With the world cooling, crops wither and die. Although there's abundant food in the storehouses, Yalaini only give the Dericost the barest amount of food to survive.

Food shortages strike particularly hard at the village of Daralet, located on the fringes of the Yalaini Empire. Prehistoric Times

These events may have taken place prior to the "Golden Age" of Yalaini history.

Event
Primordial gods struggle with evil shadow creatures. After a long contest that exhausted their powers, the gods banish the shadows into the earth by creating the sun and stars.[1]
The Deru Trees are created by the Light and they drive the Living Dark below, allowing life to spread across the world.[2]

Arelis Eipoth

 • Arelis Eipoth translates to Golden Age.[3][4]
 • Lasted approximately 15,000 years.[4]
Portal Year Yalaini Epothi Event
AE 1 Scholars are not certain what event marked the beginning of this historical epoch, or why it is called “Golden.” It is believed that the Empyrean, when formalizing their calendar in the reign of Alaidain, calculated backwards to an event known in their legends.[3]

The Isparian scholar Alatar Locke theorizes that long before the Millennium War and far before even the first stirrings of Falatacot malice in the swamps of the world the Empyreans willingly came to Auberean via portal magic with a singular purpose. What that purpose is remains a mystery. Alatar claims even the Empyrean forgot this purpose over the long ages.[5]

[Editor's Note: It is possible that Empyreans arrived on Auberean before the Golden Age. Placement of this event here is purely hypothetical, theorizing that Empyreans arriving on Auberean is the event known in Empyrean legends.]

The Falatacot exist on a continent that Geraine IV later states is located beyond the western sea.[6]
The Falatacot are driven to Killiakta by Yalain, Haebrous, and Dericost. It is on Killiata where they first hear the pulse of the Blood of the World; where they cease to be wanderers, and become the Keepers of Creation; where they become the blessed servants of the Wheel of All Things.[7]
The Falatacot diverge into two branches: the Dark Falatacot, dealing in the power of undeath and corruption in service to the Old Ones; and the Light Falatacot, working to protect what they consider to be worshipful spirits - the Deru Trees.[8]
Kemeroi overpower the Old Ones.[9]
Some Falatacot flee from Killiakta to Dericost after Darkness and cold put their gods to sleep.[10]
The Great Cooling of the World.

Dericoi Eipoth

 • Dericoi Eipoth translates to Age of Dericost.[3][4]
 • Lasted 6174 years.[11]
Portal Year Yalaini Epothi Event
-15,173 PY DE 1 Dericost

Beginning of the Age of Dericost.

They specifically share their knowledge of blood, death and entropy magics.[4]

Dericost

While most Falatacot practice their magic within ethical bounds, the Dericost know no such bounds. Soon the Dericost nobility comes across the darkest of the Falatacot refugees' rituals which hold out the promise of eternal life. The Dericost are not aware that these magics involve the death of the physical body and the tying of the person's spirit to its decaying form. Once the initial shock of this discovery wears off, the Dericost find this an acceptable price to pay and many of the nobility transform themselves into undead. Among the first is a figure called His Eternal Splendor, along with those in his inner circle, Lady Aerfalle and Lord Rytheran.[4]

-10,465 PY DE 4709 Dericost

The Sarian Family is awarded a patent of nobility for service to the Ice Throne of Dericost. The Sarian Family will serve as the lords and ladies of Antaoc for 1,465 years, until the defeat of Dericost.[11]

-10,027 PY DE 5,147 Haebrous

King Braletain begins his reign of Haebrous.[12]

-10,022 PY DE 5,152 Haebrous, Ruschk

In the fifth year of the reign of His Majesty King Braletain of Haebrous, a tribe of Ruschk in the frigid northern edge of the Kingdom of Haebrous is slain to make way for a mercantile company's gemstone excavations. The only survivor of this tribe, Grael, is brought back to the Royal Menagerie. Carraida, the young Queen of Haebrous, begged her husband to send Grael to gladiatorial pits for her amusement. Grael goes on to be undefeated, killing all that challenge him and eating their hearts.[12]

Grael, however, escapes.[12][13]

-10,020 PY DE 5,154 Haebrous, Shadow, Ruschk

Baranaith, Hiranaith, and Korogaith are changed to Shadows, while Farelaith flees.[13]

Grael chooses to sleep on a island north of Vissidal. His presence covers the island in Shadow, and the isle is soon called the Dark Isle. Those Falatacot who followed the Old One N'cthail use ancient seals to sink the isle below the waves, in hopes none will ever wake Grael and that this world will be free of him forever.[14]

Twenty years after The Grael Rebellion, King Braletain is a ruined and wasted man, a shadow of the strong and admirable leader he had been. His weakness has emboldened the ever-grasping Dericostians, there is no clear and qualified successor, and Lord Alashorn fears war will come soon between the Kingdoms.[12]

[Editor's Note: Though it is possible that the events related to the Grael Rebellion happened as long ago a several hundred years prior to Dericost actually going to war, there is no way to make an accurate estimate. Therefore, the events have been placed immediately proceeding the start of the Millennium War.]

The Dericost Kingdom reaches the height of its power and attacks its neighbors Haebrous and Yalain, igniting the Millennium War.[3]

Haebrous

At some point, Braletain no longer rules over Haebrous. Jailne is the King of Haebrous at the end of the Millennium War.

Yalain

In the closing years of the Millennium War, Empress Alaidain founds the Order of Hieromancers to serve as her personal guard and household company.[15]

After nearly 1,000 years of conflict, the Haebrous and Dericost lands are devastated. The Ice Throne of Dericost is overturned by the victorious Haebrous and Yalain.

Jailne and Alaidain kill Sarvien, but Jailne is also killed in the battle.

With the Haebrous and Dericost kingdoms shattered and their lands ravaged by war, Empress Alaidain assumes rule over the remnants of these kingdoms. The Seaborne Empire of Yalaini now spans the globe. The majority of the surviving undead Lords flee Gelid and most take up residence in Dereth.[3][4]

Dericost, Yalain

The living Dericost nobility are marched away in chains from the Plateau of Gelid to reservations in the Haebrous lands. The common folk of the Dericost Kingdom are allowed to remain in their homelands.[4]

A meteorological phenomenon known as the Black Rains begin.[17] It has been said that the Empyreans ignored the celestial fiery visitor seen in the night skies until, one night, it completely disappeared. Soon afterward, roiling black clouds raining ash and soot darkened the skies.

The Yalaini see the darkness enveloping the world as a sign that the Light has rejected them. Yalaini Elders blame the Dericost for this event.

With the world cooling, crops wither and die. Although there's abundant food in the storehouses, Yalaini only give the Dericost the barest amount of food to survive.

Food shortages strike particularly hard at the village of Daralet, located on the fringes of the Yalaini Empire. With his son on the verge of starvation, Ilservian Palacost, a mage of Dericost ancestry, a demands that the Yalaini Elders share their food. They refuse and have the mage and his followers run out of the village. Ilservian's son dies soon thereafter.[16][3]

[Editor's Note: In the Ages of the Empyrean, this era was declared by Caerlin I. In the Aerlinthe Record, Caerlin I is not emporer until RE 230. Prior to that, Kellin I was emporer. RE 208 Shimena Keep constructed on the northeast islet of Aerlinthe, then an unnamed island. Shimena guarded the northern approaches to Ireth Lassel research colony from Pelagian sea-nomads.[18]
RE 213 A larchess tree is planted within the walls of Shimena Keep.[18]
RE 221 Hearing from former Shimena garrison troops of great riches on Aerlinthe, Lord Gevran Loritane of Elancia visits aboard his sailing skyship Tinoriel. He discovers great mineral wealth, and magma flows of sufficient temperature to permit the forging of mana-alloy. The enchanters Eosonn and Auriam are crushed by a magma tube cave-in when the land quakes. Without the ability to levitate Tinoriel, the ship returns to Glystenae over sea.[18]
RE 222 Loritane sends sixteen great ocean-galleons and two skyships to Aerlinthe, carrying the supplies necessary to build a mining outpost. Lord Loritane and Lady Raina accompany the vessels in Tinoriel.

The navigation channel into the lagoon is dredged.

Reservoir dug to collect rainwater. All local water sources tainted with sulphur and ash. An Old Ring, buried under ash and ejecta, is found during the digging. It is left undisturbed, but considered a good omen.

The island is titled Aerlinthe by Lord Loritane, a name which came to him in a dream. The central volcano is known of old to be called Tenkarrdun, Dericost for “Stoic Blood.” The smaller peaks to the northwest and northeast are found to have been named Cunara (“Steaming Heights”) and Ernassen (“Land Reflected”), respectively. The lagoon is dubbed Raina's Harbor.[18]

RE 223 Completion of the light-towers of Weretirae and Eretirae, on either side of the navigation channel on Aerlinthe.[18]
RE 225 Tenkarrdun's forges return their first profit. Loritane and Raina return to Elancia. Lady Raina convinces Loritane to appoint master smith Hare Aralea as governor of Aerlinthe.[18]
RE 230 His Most Dignified and Serene Majesty Emperor Kellin, seventh in the Line of Alaidain, dies. His son Delophon takes the Cerulean Throne, assuming the Imperial Name of Caerlin (“Lord of the Deep Waters”).[18]
RE 274 The Blessing of Aerlinthe. A gromnatross makes her aerie on the peaks of Cunara. She is named Aurlanaa by the people of the port.[18]
RE 313 Expansion of the foundry of Aerlinthe; two new forges added.[18]
RE 317 The outgassing of noxious fumes from Ernassen forces a two-month evacuation to Ireth Lassel.[18]
RE 323 Battle of Shimena. Twenty Imperial chevairds and forty-four household troops of Loritane perish while holding at bay a raiding force of five hundred Pelagic sea-nomads, embarked in two dozen sailing vessels of war.

Battle of the Towers. Seeking revenge for the defeat at Shimena, the Pelagian band returns and attacks from the south. Mages under the direction of Aralea ascend the light-towers and pour fire down upon the decks of their ships. The Coral Golems used to keep the navigation channel clear rip the keels from their ships. The southern attack is repulsed, though sunken vessels block the channel for a month. A second landing to the west, near the reservoir, results in the looting and partial razing of the port. Over one hundred die, and many are taken captive by the sea-nomads.[18]

RE 324 In response to the raids, Emperor Caerlin declares the port of Aerlinthe an Imperial anchorage and treasure port. Four war galleons and seven fast skysloops, for scouting and messenger duty, drop anchor in Raina's Harbor. They bring with them an additional hundred chevairds to garrison the island. Aerlinthe is acknowledged as one of the most important sources of pyreal in the Empire.[18]
RE 329 The sailing platform-city of the sea-nomads that raided Aerlinthe in 323 is tracked and taken by the Imperial naval force. Most of the Aerlinthe captives are found enslaved in galley oarlocks.[18]
RE 331 The Eaulinthe (“Star-Stone”) is found in the deepest crevasses of Tenkarrdun. This large diamond contains a small amount of liquid magma, kept hot and brightly shining through unknown magical means.[18]
RE 336 Asheron Realaidain is born.[3]
RE 340 Raina's Harbor boils. A new fumarole opens at the bottom, heating the water to scalding temperatures. The Imperial ships are anchored at Shimena while golems dig a new land outlet for the gasses, then seal the fumarole.[18]
RE 349 Memorial Stone erected in Shimena Keep, inscribed with the names of all who died in the Pelagic raids of 323.[18]
RE 366 Children begin to disappear at night in the village of Daralet in the Dericost Marches.[19]
RE 371 The forges of Aerlinthe begin to produce weapons designed by Lord Atlan of Knorr. Lord Loritane takes the finest axe, and has the Eaulinthe fixed upon its blade. With this weapon he joins the northern army at Planae.

Loritane disappears in the Dericost Marches, along with most of Atlan's army. Lady Raina assumes control of Loritane's house and holdings. Hare Aralea renews his oaths of fealty to the Lady in person, traveling to her castle in Glystenae via fast skyship.

Lady Raina announces she carries a child of Loritane.[18]

Atlan dies at the hands of Bael'Zharon.[3]

RE 372 Raina gives birth to a daughter, whom she names Clari.[18]
RE 388 Nesortania Province overrun by the forces of the Hopeslayer. Lady Raina takes Clari and her household, and flees to the Imperial Archipelago.[18]
RE 392 The city of Elancia in Glystenae falls under shadow. [18]
RE 426 Caerlin replaces the galleon Minaera, last of the original Imperial patrol squadron, with the new sailing frigate Reithyis.[18]
RE 502 Prince Durglen Realaidain, son of the Emperor, announces that he will take the hand of Clari Loritane, Mistress of Aerlinthe, and walk by her side into darkness or dawn.[18]
RE 507 Prince Durglen joins hands with Mistress Clari in the Iphvircae Cliffs Cathedral.[18]
RE 567 A large colony of mulardil are discovered in the Naarcaerel Reef by the fisher-woman Julitaen, a poor resident of the harbor tempest floats. She is titled mistress of the mular-pearl harvest by Hare Aralea, and hires all the other residents of the floats.[18]
RE 686 Caerlin's “Council of Five” is convened.[3]
RE 886 Ejan Aralae, son of Hare, succeeds his father as master smith and governor of Aerlinthe.[18]
RE 893 Emperor Caerlin is brushed by Black Madness in battle, and becomes leprous with Ayai Heauviri.*
(* Translator's note: Ayai is Empyrean for “burning.” Heauviri, literally means “high-thought-wind.” This may be the Yalain equivalent of “soul.” Based on context, which suggest disease and decay, I would judge our closest translation of Ayai Heauviri to be “the Soulburn Plague.” - Bretslef)[18]
RE 895 Aurlanaa leaves her aerie on the peak of Cunara. She meets several other gromnatross south of Aerlinthe, and they ascend, disappearing into the heavens. No gromnatross are seen on Auberean for twenty-two years.

Severe lightning-storms and strange glows come over the southeast waters. The population is evacuated to the west.

Darkness falls upon the shores of Ireth Lassel. A vast reach of Black Madness and fifteen Thorns accompany the Hopeslayer, his generals, and their army.

Darkness defeated. The Hopeslayer is entrapped in the mage council's array. The explosive power released destroys the Jailne Lyceum, kills the entire council, and shatters the array into pieces. One piece lands on Aerlinthe, but is recovered before it can dig itself into the ground. With the defeat of the Hopeslayer, the Rhethis Eipoth (Era of Lore) is concluded by decree of Emperor Caerlin. The Torethis Eipoth (Second Era of Lore) is declared.[18]

TE 413 Empress Clari dies in a boating accident at the age of 937. Princess Alhallie becomes Lady of Elancia and Aerlinthe.[18]
TE 416 Catriae Tamanea's rogue fleet defeats the flotilla at Aerlinthe, and pillages the port. Over twelve million pyreal coins are looted.[18]
TE 422 Piteous screams are heard from behind the door Inquisitor Alibec sealed in 334. It is forced open, but the room is empty, and the scene of Galaeral's murder remains as it was when the door was erected. Shrieks of pain and incomprehensible, mumbling chants are occasionally heard from the room, leading workers to whisper that the missionary's soul remains in torment at the place of her death.[18]
TE: 428 Princess Alhallie visits Aerlinthe, while on her tour of the provinces. She gathers research for a planned travelogue.[18]
TE 450 After the census, Emperor Caerlin announces that Tentael has a population of over one million, most under the age of 400. Aerlinthe's population is less than 100, but nearly 1000 golems work the forges at any time.[18]
TE 463 Massive collapse of the Tenkarrdun forge tunnels during a landquake. Four workers are crushed, another sixteen trapped and suffocated. The entire lower quarter of the foundry is cut off. Shifting rock makes reopening the tunnels too risky, and Ejan decides to build a new forge works further up the mountain.[18]
TE 464 The new forges are completed. Due to the distance between them and the magma flows, production is less than half of that before the collapse.[18]
TE 477 Princess Alhallie joins hands with Lord Cashtal Ronain of Haebrous. Lord Cashtal's last name is changed to Realaidain.[18]
TE 504 His Most Dignified and Serene Majesty Emperor Caerlin II, ninth in the Line of Alaidain, dies at the age of 1022 years. Alhallie ascends to the Cerulean Throne, and takes the Imperial Name of Cellaurai (“Consecrated by Starlight”).[18]
