| Long ago, I, Zalphoos the Explorer, came here in search of privacy with my beloved bride. We took to exploring the surrounding lands, thinking ourselves young and powerful. But too dangerous was this place, for she, my beloved, died in the dark and lonely halls, fighting against monsters of hideous strength. So, right here in these mountains I have stayed. Over the years, more and more travelers arrive, and I have grown too weary of warning them of the danger. My beloved is dead, my privacy ruined, and I am tired of telling so much. The gods punish the proud, they say.

 | I care not who finds these any more. Oh, my beloved, why did you have to go alone down that corridor? I have locked off that dangerous area; see, I even have the key! I only sell the key to those who think they are true explorers. So only the foolish will now go into that deadly section, where you met your lonely fate. But never mind! Your footsteps echo only in my memory, which I know is poisoned with bitterness. Let the adventurers adventure; let them die, resurrect, and come back. I wait alone, here on Alphus, knowing someday I shall die and be with you again.

 | Have you found this note? Then perhaps I will deign to tell you of the locking door in the Sylsfear dungeon. It will lock you in, mark my words, lest you keep your wits about you! Ha, it serves those right who venture where they do not belong, to suffer the consequences of their prideful actions! But I speak too much, perhaps, from my own bitterness.

 | A Scribbled Note

Sylsfear, the fear of Syliph! How I have come to know these mountains like the back of my own hand, not that I will always tell of what I know. I remember the adventuring group that, as full of pride and laughter as I once was, sought to conquer the Syliph Dungeon. Ha! They never came back, and they had gone when too often resurrection meant more often than not becoming undead. I have not seen them since, and I have seen travelers come here aplenty. Many regret coming to these mountains.
