Heavy-bearded Jailne and the gold-eyed Alaidain
- Empress Alaidain was the first recorded ruler of the Seaborne Empire of Yalain, who ruled during the end of the Millennium War.[2] All rulers of Yalain were descendants of Alaidain.
- "Darkness can never be driven from the world, for it is part of the world. It only sleeps, and bides its time. We can but sing a lullaby by the light of a flickering candle, and watch for its wakening." - Alaidain, nearly 8500 years prior to the writing of the Standing Orders[3]
- She defeated, together with King Jailne of the Haebrous, the Dericost faction of the Latzimestal[4]
- The final battle opens with the Haebrous warrior Leikotha Arenir and the combined armies of the Haebrous and Yalaini attacking the living and undead armies of the Dericost. With Dericost attention occupied by the assault, a Falatacot woman who had escaped the Lords' purge leads Jailne and Alaidain through the trackless tunnels of Vasmora into the palace of Sarvien II. In a pitched battle, the Haebrous and Yalaini forces destroy Sarvien and his Lich advisors, but the struggle costs Jailne his life. [5][1]
- The Falacatot woman leading the way is Lady Adja's Grandmother[6]
- Upon his death, Sarvien II he utters a prophecy from the Book of Eibhil, which Alaidain inscribes on Alaidain's Gem and she entrusts this gem to the wards of Ithaenc. Only monarchs of the Seaborne Empire may read these fateful words.[7][8]
- With the Haebrous and Dericost kingdoms shattered and their lands ravaged by war, Empress Alaidain assumes rule over the remnants of these kingdoms. The Seaborne Empire of Yalaini now spans the globe.[7]
- In the closing years of the Millennium War, Empress Alaidain founds the Order of Hieromancers to serve as her personal guard and household company.[9]
- VE 1: Empress Alaidain declares the beginning of the Vacari Eipoth after the defeat and occupation of Dericost[10]
