A translation of a journal page found in the ancient graveyard in the Direlands.
I do not know how Lord Rytheran found us. We fled the court when we learned that our Prince had corrupted himself with the foul magic meant to stave off his sickness. Now his lapdog Rytheran uses that same magic against us.
The scouts report that he is approaching our estate with his servants, no doubt prepared to bring destruction upon us. How ironic that I would flee to this place to escape the wrath of my Prince, only to have him bring his servants here to escape his own destruction. How surprised he must have been to learn that his exiled lords had reached this place before him.
I doubt that our preparations will be enough to win the day, but I cannot let my subjects suspect I have such doubts.
Rytheran has not even arrived and his magical assault has begun. He has called some kind of corrupting magic down upon us. Those that die from this withering rise again as spirits or revenants. My advisors have prepared a counter ritual to contain them in the graveyards, and even now they place candles to empower that process and ward against those spirits.
How I curse the blood-witches who brought this abomination to the imperial court.

Text #2:
I will not ask for mercy, nor would the Lord Mage Rytheran grant it to me if I bowed to him and begged for it. He seems to revel in the corruption and destruction his foul magic has wrought. The manor is in ruins, torn asunder by the wizard.
Only the graveyard survives now. Rytheran's servants took to throwing the prisoners, my soldiers and vassals, on a great pyre in the center of the lower graveyard. The magic used against us corrupted the pyre. I could hear their spirits cry out in torment. He would deny them peace even in death.
I can still hear the cries of those of noble blood as Rytheran subjected them to his cursed magical experimentation. It is only a matter of time before they find me.
Rytheran's magic has rent the ground, and the estate is slowly being swallowed by the earth. Even the edges of the graveyard, stone and spirit, are being cast down into the earth. Soon there will be nothing left and no one who will even remember my House.
I can hear them. They have found me.
