If you are just flagging for Weeping Weapons use the Fir Tree, then go in the portal for the Trial of the Vagabond, then recall out, you're flagged. Don't use the Puzzle Box.
If you have a high lockpick skill and want to continue on for Oswald's Dagger, use the puzzle box.
