Quest Overview

Prevent Dark Isle from sinking back into the ocean now that it has raised to the surface. Infiltrate the Temple of N'cthail and destroy the Crystal of the Dark Isle.

Despite being several years old, this quest is still quite difficult to complete solo or with a small group. There are numerous drain and dispel traps in the dungeons which can dispel level 8 buffs. The Slithis creatures throughout the quest throw projectiles which do type-less damage, which hurts a lot unless you have good Missile Defense. Unfortunately, the rewards have not been raised to current standards for a quest of such difficulty and length.

Walk Through

Part 1: Eastern Temple Catacombs

  1. Speak to Kiriel Shadowborn at 66.3N 50.0E in Bandit Castle.
    • Route: Use the portal to the Mite Maze portal in the 40+ section of the Facility Hub, then run to the portal to Bandit Castle at 42.4N 60.5E. Then head west to the castle.
  2. Use the Temple of N'cthail portal at 70.4N 50.5E to be portaled to the remote island where the temple is located.
    • Warning: The drop is not safe! You will encounter Slithis right away that do type-less damage. Stay on the move as quickly as possible.
  3. Head up the ramps and to the east. Around the side of the temple you will find a portal to the Eastern Temple Catacombs underneath one of the ramps.
  4. Make your way through the dungeon, avoiding as many traps as possible. See the map for details.
  5. At the end of the dungeon, you will find a room with many Slithis and Vault Mistress Shilaanis Ri. You will need to kill her to get the key to the nearby locked door.
    • Tip: The room can be tricky due to the presence of the Slithis which do type-less damage. Shilaanis Ri also has a very short attack distance and cannot be pulled out of the room to kill more easily. It may be best to clear some of the Slithis on one side of the room and attack and retreat to heal as necessary.
  6. Kill Vault Mistress Shilaanis Ri and loot the Eastern Vault Key from her corpse.
  7. Use the key to unlock the door.
  8. Ahead are 3 Eastern Temple Tablets, each person in the group needs one. They will respawn shortly after being looted.
  9. Portal recall to return to Bandit Castle. Give the Eastern Temple Tablet to Kiriel Shadowborn who will flag you for the next dungeon.

Part 2: Western Temple Catacombs

  1. Again go to the Temple of N'cthail using the portal at 70.4N 50.5E.
  2. From the drop, move forward and then west around the side of the temple to enter the Western Temple Catacombs.
  3. This dungeon also has many traps to try to avoid when you can. The dispel traps can be very frustrating as you will likely need to fully rebuff. Study the map to get an idea of where they are located.
  4. The first big room has a lever in it which opens the north door nearby. Proceed to pull the lever in the north room, then the east room, then the west room. This will open the door to the south.
  5. The next lever sequence opens a door to the west, then the east, then the north. Beware of the dispel trap in the connector between the rooms.
  6. The final lever sequence opens a door in a north room, then a south room, then an east room.
  7. The door after the last lever operated door (marked D11) is actually opened by a pressure plate, not lever 11. The pressure plate is in the room just north of the first D11.
  8. Beyond the levers you will come to room which is densely populated by Slithis. You will need to fight your way through to the boss room on the other side.
    • Tip: A little ways into the room, you can move to the east or west where there are not as many tentacles. If soloing, try moving here first, then clearing some more to get to the boss.
  9. In the room beyond, you must kill Vault Mistress Niktari Xsu and loot the Western Vault Key from her corpse.
  10. Use the key to unlock the door.
  11. Ahead are 3 Western Temple Tablets, each person in the group needs one. They will respawn shortly after being looted.
  12. Portal recall to return to Bandit Castle. Give the Western Temple Tablet to Kiriel Shadowborn who will flag you for the next dungeon.

Part 3: Northern Temple Catacombs

  1. For the third time, Head to the Temple of N'cthail portal at 70.4N 50.5E.
  2. Run around the temple and enter the Northern Temple Catacombs on the far side underneath a ramp.
  3. There are no traps in this dungeon, but still plenty of vines. For the most part the route is one way with simple lever puzzles.
  4. About 3/4 of the way through, you will come to sections where the vines completely block the path. You will have to clear them to continue. They are dense all the way up to the end of the dungeon. Again beware of the type-less damage from the missiles.
  5. Enter the Vault of Eternal Slumber portal at the end of the dungeon.
    • Note: Entering the portal flags you to use the same portal at the apex of the Temple of N'cthail. If you die during the boss fight, you can get back by running back to the temple portal and using it.

Part 4: Vault of Eternal Slumber

  1. This is the final dungeon and contains only the boss chamber. Head south and you will soon come to a ledge.
  2. Down below is another ledge that is covered with Slithis. If you have a missile weapons character and/or mage with you, then clear them from above. If not, there is room to jump down and clear them, but beware as there is a dispel trap very close to the spot where you land.

It was their hope that none would ever wake Grael and that this world would be free of him forever. Now, however, that wish has been undone by another."

Though the original Crystal binding the Isle to the deeps has been destroyed, it must not be allowed to reform, lest the Isle sink back down beneath the waves. The Temple is heavily defended. There are wards that block the use of the portals to the Catacombs. I've located a tablet that will allow me to enchant you to bypass the Eastern Temple Catacomb's wards. Go into the Temple. There is a portal to the Temple opened at 70.4N 50.5E. Find the entrance to the Eastern Catacombs, bring back the Tablet you will find there, and I can give you further access to the Temple."

Kiriel Shadowborn tells you, "There is a second tablet in the Western Catacombs. It contains the rest of the enchantment I need to gain you access to the crystal. With this Tablet, I can give you access to the Western Catacombs. Enter the Western Catacombs, find the tablet hidden there."
Kiriel Shadowborn tells you, "There, now you can enter the Western Catacombs. Good luck."
Kiriel Shadowborn intones softly and a cold chill passes over you for a moment..
