The size of the map is as big as it can be within the engine. We've been filling in the margins with new islands, but you won't see the map as a whole expand to include other continents or island chains.
IC: As others have said, Isparians have enjoyed the benefit of a mere two queens holding dominion over a relatively large area. Now imagine you're a ladybug, making your way across your yard.
