Walk Through
- Speak to either Lacarra Avanthi at 61.8S 51.3W or Zho Heishan at 61.9S 51.4W, both in Wai Jhou. Lacarra is associated with the Radiant Blood and Zho is associated with the Celestial Hand. Pick the one depending on which faction you are sympathetic to (the town crier indicated there are only a pair, and from the lore found during the quest it appears the Eldrytch Web and Rytheran, as a leader of some sort in that faction, actually is part of the disturbance). Warning - Once you talk to either NPC, you cannot engage the other NPC for the quest.
- Travel to Graveyard and enter the Gardens of Menilesh at 64.7S 43.8W.
- Speak to Lord Rytheran at the start, he will instruct you to retrieve a ring. You have a choice at this point, you can continue down and get the ring, or you can simply kill Rytheran, he will drop the Visage of Menilesh and the Rytheran's Mnemosyne on the ground on death (no corpse). Practical differences between these two options aren't known yet, however Zho Heishan seems to imply you can do this without killing him while Lacarra suggests killing him (see lore below). Although he does take a considerable amount of time to respawn (about 15 minutes).
- If you kill him, skip the next steps, if not continue on in the dungeon.
- Not sure if this is by design, but If you kill him before you hand him the ring, you can pickup the Visage and Mnemosyne that he drops on death to the ground. When he respawns, you can then hand him the ring and he will give you another Mnemosyne and Visage. You will get 2 of each. I am not sure if this is by design or not. Maybe Turbine can comment.
- Not far from the start is a Strange Pillar. When used it summons many moarsmen and undead. This pillar servers a role in another quest, Lalalas in My Head.
- The dungeon forms a large circle, so you can go left or right and both lead to a large room in the middle with the Ring of Remembrance on the floor. The ring respawns quickly and has a 13 day pickup timer.
- Return to Lord Rytheran at the start and give him the ring, he will give you the Visage of Menilesh and Rytheran's Mnemosyne.
- Go back to Wai Jhou and give the Mnemosyne to the NPC you originally talked to for the experience reward.
Apparently the choice you make in which NPC to use here has no long term impact:
- What you are doing this month will not exclude you from joining a different faction once the full system is in place. As it stands right now, these quests should have no impact on the faction stuff coming in the 100th update. - Freelorn

Lore & Dialog
Zho Heishan tells you, "Excellent, perhaps you can help me. My superiors seek some knowledge of the troubles affecting the ley lines of Dereth, and the problem seems to trace back to Rytheran, the ancient Dericostian noble. We have become aware that a path into Rytheran's current abode within the ruined Gardens of Menilesh has opened somewhere in the Empyrean Graveyard."
Zho Heishan tells you, "Find a way to seek out Rytheran and see if you can retrieve his personal mnemosyne... We need access to his memories about the reading of the Book of Eibhil. It may not be necessary to destroy the undead lord, but merely to attain his cooperation."
OR
Lacarra Avanthi tells you, "You may be worth my time... My masters have determined that the dusty, deposed Lord Rytheran is the source of our current troubles with ley lines. If you would make yourself useful to us and to all the humans of Dereth, seek him out in his garden sanctuary."
Lacarra Avanthi tells you, "There is a portal to these gardens located in the midst of the Empyrean Graveyard. We need a mnemosyne from Rytheran, bearing... vital information about a book he once held. Take it from him, by force or coercion, and bring it to me. You will be well rewarded."
Lord Rytheran tells you, "Ah, you seek my mnemosyne, do you not? My memories of that long-ago day when I read from the book... Your masters desire it so that they may meddle in this affair and save their fragile settlements from the depredation of the Blight. Well enough. I will give you the mnemosyne you seek if you do something for me..."
Lord Rytheran tells you, "In the ancient garden below, my followers have gone mad, forgotten themselves and their allegiance to me. Regrettably, they had something that is dear to me in their possession when they lost their minds. A ring of some... sentimental value. Find that ring, and bring it to me. I will give you the mnemosyne you seek when you bring me the ring. You will have to kill me to get the mnemosyne otherwise, and I can already see you lack the power and the will to do that."
If you choose to kill Lord Rytheran (Lady Aerfalle briefly appears after he dies):
You bring Lord Rytheran to a fiery end!
As Rytheran's battered bones collapse under the force of your assault, the undead lord's skeletal face seems to break into a bitter grin.
Lord Rytheran says, "Fool! Are you truly willing to risk my eternal enmity, and the wrath of the formidable legions that serve me? Even if my memories fail me, the Web will remember..."
A wind blows through the chamber, and the scattering of bones that was once Lord Rytheran of Menilesh vanishes. Another presence appears in the center of the room...
Lady Aerfalle says, "My poor Rytheran, what have you done to yourself? What perils were unleashed by your dabbling with that accursed book? I am here now, and I will not let these mortal vermin sully your remains..."
The pillars surface feels cold and oily. A horrible taste blooms in your mouth and you hear a whispering voice. You realize the voice is coming from your own mouth, whispering words in a language you don't understand.
You give Lord Rytheran Ring of Remembrance.
Lord Rytheran tells you, "Ah, a keepsake from my lady love... At last, a memory that will bring me some warmth in this eternal darkness. Take this mnemosyne, and my mask of office... And go. Leave me to my memories."
Lord Rytheran gives you Rytheran's Mnemosyne.
Lord Rytheran gives you Visage of Menilesh.
You give Zho Heishan Rytheran's Mnemosyne.
You've earned 297,235,856 experience. (Level 275)
Zho Heishan tells you, "Amazing! You actually convinced Rytheran to part with his precious memory of the Book of Eibhil? I do not know what you had to do to accomplish it, and perhaps that is for the best. You have my thanks, and the thanks of the realm of Dereth for the good you have done here. These memories will be invaluable in helping us solve the mess that Rytheran and that book created."
Zho Heishan tells you, "I believe you have served me already, have you not? I have no further tasks for you now, but I thank you for your attentiveness."
OR
You give Lacarra Avanthi Rytheran's Mnemosyne.
You've earned 297,235,856 experience. (Level 242)
Lacara Avanthi tells you, "Well done! I will not ask how you got this artifact from the hoary old tyrant. But this should contain the information we need to find out what Rytheran did wrong, and what we can do to stop what he has unleashed..."
Lacara Avanthi tells you, "You've already retrieved Rytheran's trinket for me. I thank you for your service, but I have nothing for you now."
Zho Heishan tells you, "You cannot fool me. You've already sought out Rytheran on Nuhmudira's behalf. Be careful of your associations. The blood witch is treacherous and would think nothing of sacrificing you for her own ends. I am afraid I can have no dealings with you."
