Quest Overview

This quest is one of two options (the other being Eleonora's Heart Quest) for the first quest in either the Ordina Rossu Morta or Whispering Blade series of quests. It will flag you for the second quest, the Knights of Karlun Quest.

Walk Through

1. Optional: Talk to the Grand Knight at 70.0N 62.4W, near Sanamar.
2. Enter the Dericost Ruin at 74.2N 74.2W near Westwatch.
3. Follow the right hand rule until you come into a large room with 3 ramps.
4. Go south and use the left hand rule through a series of rooms and down a few ramps. You will come to a room with an exit north and a ramp to the south. Go down the ramp.
5. Keep going south until you find the Ancient Discoveries book on the floor.
6. Backtrack and go north through 3 rooms. The fourth room has the Dericost Ruin Key on the floor. Pick it up.
7. Go north out of the room, and continue taking the north exit to each room you enter. In the last room exit left (west) and you will reach a locked door.
8. Use the key on the door, and retrieve the Dericost Tome which spawns on the floor in the middle of the west room near the portal.
9. Bring the Ancient Discoveries and Dericost Tome to either the Grand Knight of Sanamar or the Grand Mother of Silyun, depending on which faction you wish to join:
   • Sanamar/Ordina Rossu Morta:
     • Give the Dericost Tome to the Grand Knight for 30,000xp, a Friend of Sanamar title token, and the first flag of the Rossu Morta quest line.
     • Give Ancient Discoveries to the Grand Knight for 7,500xp and the Kam'shir.
   • Silyun/Whispering Blade:
     • Give the Dericost Tome to the Grand Mother for 30,000xp, a Friend of Silyun title token, and the first flag of the Whispering Blade quest line.
     • Note: The Grand Mother will not reward you for Ancient Discoveries, and if you have already turned in the Dericost Tome to her, neither with the Grand Knight.
10. Important Note: Completing this quest starts you on the path to joining one of the factions. You cannot do quests for the other faction unless you do the Loyalty Reset Quest. This can be done any time up until you complete the 5th quest in each series for chapterhouse access.

Speaking with the Grand Knight (unflagged):

Grand Knight tells you, "You're new to Sanamar, are you not? If you desire to prove your loyalty to the King, I have a task you may find interesting."

Grand Knight tells you, "The King has been informed of an ancient tome which lies in a ruined underground city. He dispatched a company of knights to the ruins, but they were repelled by the beasts within. The craven dogs spread tales of ghosts and undead before I had them executed for cowardice."

Grand Knight tells you, "I need someone to enter the ruins and retrieve this tome. If you do this for me, I may have more tasks for you in the future. Of course, if you fail or otherwise betray me, then I'll have nothing to do with you ever again."

Grand Knight tells you, "You can find the ruins near the outpost of Westwatch at 74.2N 74.2W. I expect to hear from you soon."

Grand Knight tells you, "But know this - the Grand Mother of Silyun also seeks this tome. Complete this task for me and she will have nothing more to do with you. Though, why you would want to socialize with those damnable rebels is beyond me."
