Quest Overview
Give fused Crystal and Shadow fragments to the Master Armorers and they will build you a suit of unique Shadow Hunter Armor. Shadow armor cannot be dropped on death.
Walk Through
- [Optional] Purchase the texts A Treatise on the Properties of Fused Gems and Aliester's Corollary from various shopkeepers for more information on gemstone armor.
- Hunt down Shadow creatures and gather the dark crystals that they drop.
- A good place for higher levels to hunt for Slivers and Dark Shards is in Aerbax's Holding.
- Hunt down Crystals and gather the crystal shards that they drop.
- Fixed spawns of Crystal creatures are more difficult to find. However, some can be found in the following locations:
- Fenmalain Chamber
- Caulnalain Chamber
- Shendolain Chamber
- 69.7S, 40.1E - Menhir Ring
- High numbers of Dual Fragments and Sparkling Dual Fragments can be found on Traitor's Island and Vanguard Isle.
- Fixed spawns of Crystal creatures are more difficult to find. However, some can be found in the following locations:
- Once you have your crystal and shadow fragments, combine them until you have either a Glimmering (lesser armor), Sparkling (medium armor) or a Scintillating gem (greater armor). See the table below on how to create the fused gems.
- You will need two fused gems to receive a full suit of armor from a smith, the first gem you hand in will get you the leggings (including a girth if Celdon) and the second gem will get you the remaining upper parts.
- Armor can be handed back to the smiths for the older stoneable post-patch version and vice versa an unlimited amount of times. There is no updated neo version of the lesser and medium Shadow suits, instead you will receive the pre-patch armor which can also be handed back for the post-patch suit.
- Neo Shadow armor can be improved in various ways. Tables listing the properties, upgrades and armor levels of the different suits available can all be found below.
- Note: Major atlan stones can be removed from armor using the Stone Tool and dyed armor can be handed to a smith for the undyed armor. Sharded and Prismatic armor changes cannot be reversed.

Lore & Dialog
After Hamud ibn Rafik struck during "To Raise a Banner of Flame"
- Koga Hideki tells you, "Please do not ask me to speak of the night when the darkness assaulted me."
- Koga Hideki tells you, "My ordeal has weakened me so much that the armor I craft is of lesser quality. But, I hope to improve my armor craft to how it once was."
- Jibril ibn Rashid tells you, "In one night I was slain a dozen times...I am now so weak I am unable to craft armor as strong as I once made..."
- Jibril ibn Rashid tells you, "But I will keep working...And if you continue to hunt shadows and crystal beasts, I will continue to improve my smithing skills."
Speaking with the Master Armorers
- Jibril ibn Rashid tells you, "Nuhmudira has finally restored us to full health! She has also stocked us with some extra supplies that we needed, such that we can provide you with either a version of the original Shadow Armor, or its successor. If you wish to trade one version of your Amuli set for another, simply hand it to me. Please take out all Atlan stones from your armor before handing it to me."
- Jibril ibn Rashid tells you, "Also, if you wish to color your new Greater Shadow Armor, you may buy a vat of color from my assistant. If you do not like the color, please give me the armor piece and I will replace it with the standard piece, which you may then choose to recolor."
- Iian di Alduressa tells you, "With the aid of the other Master Armorers, I have managed to master the basics of crafting Alduressa versions of the Shadow Armors. I've crafted both the versions that may be set with the "Atlan Stones", and the more resilient, non-elemental versions. If you wish to trade one version of your Alduressa armor set for another, simply hand it to me. Please take out all Atlan stones from your armor before handing it to me."
- Iian di Alduressa tells you, "Also, I have heard that the other Master Armorers have apprentices who sell paints for recoloring the Greater Shadow Armors. Those paints will also work upon the Greater Shadow Alduressa that I create. If you do not like the color, please give me the armor piece and I will restore the piece to its original colors, which you may then choose to recolor as you like."
Handing in Fused Gems
- You give Jibril ibn Rashid Glimmering Gem.
- Jibril ibn Rashid tells you, "A small gem... delightful. Take these leggings. Another glimmering gem will allow me to make you a coat as well."
- Jibril ibn Rashid gives you Lesser Amuli Shadow Leggings.
- You give Jibril ibn Rashid Glimmering Gem.
- Jibril ibn Rashid tells you, "Here is a coat to complete your suit of armor."
- Jibril ibn Rashid gives you Lesser Amuli Shadow Coat.
- You give Alean the Steel Forger Sparkling Gem.
- Alean the Steel Forger tells you, "A mediocre gem. Take your reward. These leggings are of fair quality. I need another of those gems to make sleeves and a breastplate for you."
- Alean the Steel Forger gives you Celdon Shadow Leggings.
- Alean the Steel Forger gives you Celdon Shadow Girth.
- You give Alean the Steel Forger Sparkling Gem.
- Alean the Steel Forger tells you, "This gem allows me to complete the suit for you. Take it, and perhaps you can slay greater creatures and bring me a more powerful gem."
- Alean the Steel Forger gives you Celdon Shadow Breastplate.
- Alean the Steel Forger gives you Celdon Shadow Sleeves.
- You give Iian di Alduressa Scintillating Gem.
- Iian di Alduressa tells you, "Ah, the strongest of the fused gems. Beautiful, are they not? You must have slain both many shadows and many crystals. Take these leggings. May they be a testiment to your dedication in this hunt. And remember, with another Scintillating Gem, I can craft for you a coat of the same calibur."
- Iian di Alduressa gives you Greater Alduressa Shadow Leggings.
- You give Iian di Alduressa Scintillating Gem.
- Iian di Alduressa tells you, "Another of the strongest of the fused gems. You must truly be dedicated in the hunt of shadows and crystals. Allow me to complete your suit of armor with this Alduressa coat. Be well, and thank you for the chance to practice my craft."
- Iian di Alduressa gives you Greater Alduressa Shadow Coat.
Notes
- During the Heroes' Respite event, the armor became lighter and the elemental protections were improved.
- During the To Raise a Banner of Flame event, the Armor Smiths were murdered by Hamud ibn Rafik and unable to create GSx at its former AL (post-patch lesser was upgraded 10 AL however).
- Pre-patch GSA is now retired and no longer attainable through the master armorers. It can only be aquired by trading with players who owned it prior to the To Raise a Banner of Flame event. It does not exist on the newer Wintersebb server and is extremely rare on the Solclaim server.
- During the Taste of Twilight event, Atlan Stones could be placed in Greater Shadow Armor to increase its elemental protections (See Aliester's Corollary).
- During the Fever Dreams event, the Armor Smiths burnt their vitae and were once again able to produce Shadow Armor at its former strength. GSA returned to pre-patch values but with new look and wield reqs. and all other armor returned to their pre-patch values and color.
- During the Persuasion event, the ability to dye greater Shadow armor became available.
- During the A Perfect Paradox event, the quest became repeatable without a loss of quality in the armor.
- During the A Gathering of Colors event, a new quest became available to place shards into the armor for improved AL and major life cantrips.
- During the Mirror, Mirror event, it became possible to dye Sharded Shadow Armor.
- During the A Change in Tactics, a new quest became available to turn your Greater Shadow Amuli into Prismatic Shadow Amuli.
- During the Shining Runes and Shadowed Hands event, the new Alduressa Shadow armor became available. It also became possible to create Prismatic Shadow Armor other than Amuli.
