Modes

Peace Mode

Peace mode is the state you're in when the dove button is shown on the interface and you're not in a combat stance. In this mode you can perform Secure Trades, carry out all Crafting actions and heal yourself more successfully. You click the dove to go into combat mode and bring up the corresponding combat panel depending on which type of weapon you're wielding:

Melee Weapons

This mode is active when you're wielding a melee weapon such as a Sword. The melee combat bar has a slider for changing the speed versus power. The high, medium and low buttons refer to the attack height.

Missile Weapons

This mode is active when you're wielding a missile weapon such as an Atlatl. The missile combat bar is exactly the same as the melee bar except the slider now controls speed versus accuracy instead of power.

Spell Tabs

You can switch tabs by clicking on them, or by pressing the <insert> and <page up> keys to cycle through the eight tabs. These are the same keys used to increase / decrease attack power / accuracy in the other combat panels.

  • Also:
    • CTRL + Prev Tab = First Tab
    • CTRL + Next Tab = Last Tab
Spells

You can switch spells by clicking on them, or by pressing the <delete> and <page down> keys to cycle through them. These are the same keys used to switch between low attack / medium attack / high attack in the other combat panels.

  • Also:

Charge Attacks

When a player executes a melee attack, they first move towards their target until they are within range to attack. This movement is a charge–it is much faster than the character's normal movement rate, but because of that speed it can only be sustained for a very short distance. If, at the end of the charge, the player is still too far away from their target to attack, they will stop the attack and see the message, "You have charged too far!"

Notes

  • In Heroes' Respite, multiple tabs were added to the spell bar for a total of five spell tabs.
  • In The Paths of Destruction, additional keyboard functionality was added for switching between spells and spell tabs.
  • In A Reign of Stone, hit messages now report those body parts affected during melee combat.
  • In Hidden Vein, two more spell tabs were added to the spell bar.
  • In A New Threat, you will now receive a message if a player casts a spell on an item that you are wielding.
  • In From Darkness, Light, an 8th spell tab was added to the spell bar.
