Could we please have a setting to hide the rank prefix?

Asked: 2001.03.25
Name: Steve Cornelius
Question Title: Could we please have a setting to hide the rank prefix?
Category: Allegiances
Question: When I make a character called (for instance) Jane Doe, I don't want to be called Jo-chueh (or whatever) Jane Doe. Those titles are stupid if, like most people, you don't give a damn about rank and they are confusing when trying to send messages to someone you've just ided. They are particularly silly when the character's name is not from the same ethos as the title.

Answer: Unfortunately some titles, like "Reeve", can be part of your character name. Being able to turn off the title could let you masquarade as a different rank. Moreover, you could masquarade as a different PERSON: you see "Reeve Luigi" in town, who's name is Luigi and who's rank is Reeve. So you make a character named "Reeve Luigi" and then you turn off your rank, and people can't tell the difference between the two of you.

So no, I'm against being able to turn off your rank title.
