What could cause FPS lag in meeting halls?

Asked: 2000.12.05

Question Title: What could cause FPS lag in meeting halls?
Category: Dungeons
Question: In the Baishi Meeting hall, sometimes everyone in the hall experiences alot of lag at the same time. Our FPS's drop to 1.5-3.0. We move outside and everything is fine. Could it be because of all the extreneous lighting around the hall or perhaps the mana pool lagging everything that bad?

Answer: More likely it's because you have a lot of people in there, although I can't tell from your message what kind of numbers we're talking about. In general, more than 20 people in eyeshot will be bad, if they all have different textures on their equipment and clothes.

Another possibility is particle effects. The only substantive particle effects in the halls are the pillar fires and blue pool fog. Large numbers of players wielding particle weapons will cause a serious hit to framerate.

Lighting has minimal effect on rendering time. The mana pool is more likely to cause server lag than framerate lag.
