Question: I have heard that reduction of rendering radius can decrease the time spent in portal space. Is this true? Should the default amount of 5 be maintined for optimum play.

Answer: At high render radius's, more landscape has to be created when you portal into a new area. This requires more loading, and more calculations when you jump from one area to another. So yes, it may take a little longer to portal into an area with a high render radius, but I wouldn't imagine it would be more than half of a second or so..
