This guide takes inspiration from the Ironman Harcore Challenge on the Levistras server. I have modified the rule set to be less restricting.

Rules

  1. Must use character generation described below.
  2. No outside help. This means no help from other players or your alternate characters. The exception to this would be other characters participating in the challenge.
  3. No altering starting attributes or skills.

Additional Rules

The following optional rules may be added to increase difficulty:

Travel restrictions:

  • No using the Town Network.
  • No using the Facility Hub for travel.
  • No settlement portals.
  • No residential halls.
  • No Statue dungeons.
  • No portal gems.
  • No portals to towns.
  • No wilderness portals (e.g. Riverbend portal)

Play-style restrictions:

  • No using the Facility Hub for leveling.
  • Perma-death. When your character dies, delete the character.
  • Player Killer. Other ironman challenge players can harm you, and you will have collision with them.

Equipment/buff restrictions:

  • No services from healers.
  • No protection gems from Lugians.
  • No Pathwarden starter equipment.
  • No Explorer gear.
  • No Professors of Magic. Spells must be learned via scrolls from Scriveners.
  • No use of Scriveners. Spells must be learned via scolls found in loot.
  • No foci. Use old spell component system. Note that this is not possible with Void Magic.

Character Creation

  1. On the Heritage tab, use a randomizer to select a heritage. (Note: the Random button built in to the client only selects from the four human heritages, so use google ("11 value spinner").)
  2. Skip the Profession tab for now.
  3. On the Skills tab, click the Random button. This will spend all your skill credits on trained and specialized skills. If you do not get at least one specialized offensive skill, spin again. For the purposes of this challenge, offensive skills are: Heavy, Light, Finesse Weapons, Two Handed Combat, Missile Weapons, War Magic, Life Magic, Void Magic, and Summoning.
  4. Return to the Professions tab. Use the array of 100/90/80/30/20/10 and assign values to attributes of your choosing.
  5. Skip forward to Appearance tab. use a randomizer to select gender. With Face selected click the Random button. With Clothes selected click the Random button.
  6. On the Town tab, click the Random button.
  7. On the Summary tab, choose a name, then click the Finish button.

Post-Creation

Once you have created the character, you may spend skill credits as you wish to train new skills.

You cannot alter your starting skills or attributes via the temples or Asheron's castle. You are allowed to specialize a skill that started as trained, and you are allowed to later un-specialize it and move it back to trained. But you cannot untrain a skill that started as trained, or unspecialize a skill that started as specialized. You are also allowed to obtain the innate attribute augmentations.

Buff Guide

  • Healers in Holtburg, Sanamar, Shoushi, and Yaraq sell level 1 - 4 Attribute buffs. Look under "Services".
  • The Lugian merchants in Holtburg, Shoushi, and Yaraq sell special protection gems. When used, these gems cast spells equal to level 3s for the 7 elemental protections and the natural armor spell.

Travel Guide

Mages in the 9 starter towns sell portal gems to the 9 starter towns and Xarabydun.

Wedding Planners sell portal gems to:

  • Wedding Hall. The Wedding Hall contains portals to South Direlands (84.2S, 34.4W) and North Direlands (24.3N, 53.8W).
  • Plateau Village outskirts.
  • Ithaenc Cathedral Outskirts.

More information on other portals may be found on the Portal Network page.
