Amuli based on...?

Asked: 2000.11.01
Name: Zelgadis Muyo/Star/Felix the Cat
Question Title: Amuli based on...?
Category: Items
Question: Most of the base weapons and armor (yoroi, plate, studded leather, tachi, etc.) are all based on some sort of ancient times piece of equipment, either called by the same name or something similar. Lately on the vnboards we've found pictures of yoroi armor, however, no one can find anything on Amuli. So was this the original name of the armor it was based on, or did you change it? And if you did, what was the historical name? Thanks, we appreciate it. :)

Yes, yes, my names are excessive.

Answer: Asheron's Call's main aim is not to be a repository of historical accuracy. And come to think of it, accurate to what? Where is Ispar? What is its history? Did they have can openers? Type writers?

We have artists with imaginative ideas, and that creativity goes into every aspect of the game.

While it is nice to be able to say "yeah, this once existed" it isn't necessary to do so. The Olthoi Sword certainly isn't based on anything but the look of the Olthoi, as an example.

In the case of the Amuli armor, I believe that was entirely the design of Mike Sheidow, with perhaps some help from Jason Booth.

Sometimes something looks the way it does just because, damn, it looks cool!

Sean.
