How do portal storms work?

Asked: 2000.11.01
Name: Esu Ahn
Question Title: How do portal storms work?
Category: Landscape
Question: Hope i put this in right category
What determines when portal storms build and subside? It always says "leave this crowded area" but sometimes, there's hardly any one around.
Is it a random chance that portals you away, or are there things that put you at more risk?
Also , is it possible that the clouds could be more translucent in the future. It's difficult to fight multiple monsters when you're suddenly engulfed in a blinding purple fog.

Answer: It's based on the number of people in a 192 meter area. Once a threshold is reached, warnings are issued to the people who've been in the area the longest.

I'll look into making the particles a little more transparent.
