Anti-Virus

Of all possible solution paths, the most disruptive system element for running Asheron's Call with Vista is antivirus. There are “known good” applications such as AVG. Microsoft OneCare also works. Others can be found by searching discussion boards: when encountering an error that blocks the game launcher from properly executing it is most likely linked with antivirus or other internet security application.

Vista/AC friendly Anti-Virus Software

  • Antivirus software can cause problems, Norton in particular. AVG works ok.
  • It is also possible to use avast! antivirus but you must first remove the network shield component by doing the following:
  • Control Panel > Programs and Features > click avast! Antivirus > click uninstall/change and then choose the change option and uncheck the network shield and click next.
  • Please note, disabling the antivirus or security suite in almost every case is not a solution. It must be fully uninstalled and replaced with a "known good" antivirus application.

Running the AC Launcher as an Administrator

  • Right click your AC icon and select Properties. Go to the Compability tab. Check "Run this program as an administrator." You'll get that annoying UAC pop-up every time you run AC now, but it makes it work (avoids the patching failed because you don't have permission to write in your application directory error.
