Starts At: ??
Time to Complete: 1 Hour

Quest Overview

This quest allows you to begin earning Luminance points from various higher level creatures and quests. See Luminance for a list of rewards that can be purchased using these points. The flagging need only be completed once per character (turning in the mnemosyne), however there are two lore items in the dungeon also that can be turned in for xp and luminance points every 2 weeks to Fayza.

Walk Through

  1. Speak to Nalicana in Asheron's Castle.
    • Route: Take the portal to Asheron's Island by the windmill in Eastham.
  2. Enter the Gurog cave at 84.9N 7.1W (Frozen Tomb).
    • Route: Take the Snowy Valley Portal in Tou-Tou for a short run east to the cave. It is surrounded by steep walls so you can only enter from the east. Go around to the north side of the walls first for the easiest access from the east side until 85.3N 6.5W and then jump down.
  3. Kill the three Gurogs before locked door for the Entryway Key (or you can just pick the door, 700 resistance).
  4. Continue straight ahead into the Frozen Tomb portal.
  5. Continue to the next level down where you will find Gurog Soldiers.
  6. Continue to the Boss who is guarded by 8 Soldiers. He is very dangerous and has a strong melee attack.
  7. Return trophy to Nalicana. Note that while the pickup timer is 6 days, there is no reward for repeating this quest.

Tips:

  • The quest is far easier with a couple people, while possible it can be difficult to solo.
  • Dispel gems can help if you are about to die, but they cast vulns non-stop so live with the vulns if you can.
  • Cast pacification on weapons to reduce damage.
  • Mages can use Tusker Fists spell on the boss from the hallway.
  • Kill all soldiers when the boss is close to death to make looting easier.
  • Most Gurogs use Two-Handed Weapons with a cleaving property, meaning they will hit more than one person at once. Position characters intelligently to prevent this, as a few Gurogs cleaving players at once can quickly kill them.

KronikJames' Tips

  1. Go to town network take the Eastham portal
  2. Run to 17.9n, 64.3e by the Windmill and take portal to Asheron's Island
  3. Take Asheron's Castle Portal device right by drop
  4. Run over to 21.1n, 69.3e and talk with Nalicana
  5. Go to town network and take Stonehold portal
  6. Run to 69.5n, 20.2w and take Wisp Lake Cottage Portal
  7. Run to 83.8N 4.3W and talk with Gregoria, Gurog Destroyer to start 3 hunter task
  8. Run to 85.3n, 6.5w which take you to the area you need to go.
  9. The Cave is at 84.9n, 7.1w.

Tips

  • To get to 85.3n, 6.5w run more North and East then come back this puts you at the edge of a cliff and mostly protected before you jump down and run to cave.
  • All monsters seem to do Hollowstyle damage including the Gurog.
  • All monsters cast level 7 and 8 war, life, critter, and item spells including the Gurog.
  • The Undead and Frost Golems seem to be weak to fire, Frost Golems might be weak to lighting but, not confirmed by me.
  • The Undead seem to have a high resist rate to vulns and imps (at least for my bow toon)
  • The Frost Golems seem to have an issue with regenerating back to full health when the sit down.
  • The Gurog seem to weak to fire and acid.

To get the Journal of a Soldier and the Torn Note.

  1. The Journal of a Soldier is down the left hallway after the wooden ramp up. It is on the table surrounded by a few Gurog.
  2. The Cellar Key is down the right hallway from the wooden ramp up. It spawn on the corpse with a few Gurog around it.
  3. Go back down the wooden ramp and hang a left or right as it takes you to door for the Cellar Key to be used on.
  4. The Torn Note is in the middle room on a Gurog that is on a 10 minute respawn time. 1 note per kill.

Lore & Dialog

Town Crier Sayings

Town Crier tells you, "I've heard reports of several strange seers, who are testing those powerful enough to use their gifts. I wonder what that's about..."

Town Crier tells you, "Five Seers have made their presence known with the return of the Empyreans. For those who are strong enough, they can find the first Seer, Nalicana, in Asheron's Castle."

Ulgrim the Unpleasant tells you, "Luminance? Bah! When I visited those Seers they were so awe struck by my power they bowed down to me and told about how the legend of the amazing Ulgrim reached them, even while they were stuck in portal space."

Ulgrim the Unpleasant tells you, "Luminance, Seers, Augs, those Empyreans were holding on to all kinds of things in Portal Space. You'd think they could of used them all together to find a way out of their instead of just sitting around waiting to be saved. I supposed not everyone can be as amazing as myself. The world would certainly be better if they could be like me though."

Too Low Level (Under 200)

Alicana looks you over carefully.
Nalicana tells you, "Greetings, young one. While I am pleased to meet you, you are not yet strong enough for what the Light can offer. Gain in experience, and return to me later."
Nalicana tells you, "May the Light go with you."

Speak to Nalicana

Nalicana tells you, "Greetings, I am Nalicana, the Seer of the Yalain."

Nalicana tells you, "Due to several factors, including both the return of the... altered... Empyreans, as well as Geraine's manipulations of time via the Book of Eibhil, the Light has empowered several Seers, including myself."

Nalicana tells you, "We may, in turn, empower those who prove their worth to walk the ancient Empyrean Paths, and gain power from the Light itself, known as Luminance."

Nalicana tells you, "The different eras of Empyrean history have each empowered a Path, from our beginnings in the Paths of the Falatacot, through the more recent Dericost and Haebrean Paths, up to the Path of the Yalain."

Nalicana tells you, "To prove your worth, and be empowered to gain Luminance, my task for you is fairly straightforward. There is an Undead, known as Battle Lord Gregor. He is one of Geraine's top nobles, and is the overseer of the forces which now include the beings called Gurog."

Nalicana tells you, "Hidden deep in the area held by these Gurog, he organizes the forces Geraine has chosen to put forth. Find him, defeat him, and bring me his Mnemosyne. Contained therein, we hope to find much knowledge on what Geraine is up to."

Nalicana tells you, "The Gurog have emerged in an area of the mountains of Northern Osteth. You'll find the Battle Lord deep in the caves there."

Turn in Mnemosyne

You allow Nalicana to examine your Battle Lord Gregor's Mnemosyne.
You hand over all of your Battle Lord Gregor's Mnemosynes.

Nalicana tells you, "Thank you for this. Lord Asheron should be able to learn much from it, to help counter Geraine's mad schemes."

Nalicana tells you, "You have completed the task I have set before you. Now, it is time for you to gain access to the Paths."

Nalicana touches your brow, and you feel a great upwelling of light and heat fill your entire form. Just when it feels like you may burst from the pressure inside you, the feeling fades down to a comfortable warmth.

Nalicana tells you, "Welcome into the Light. You now may gain inner Luminance from your adventures, if they be truly challenging to your strength."

Nalicana tells you, "This Luminance, in turn, may be used to empower both auras and items for your benefit."

Nalicana tells you, "You may always come to me, for the Path of the Yalain is open to all who have proven themselves to the Light."

Nalicana tells you, "In addition, you may also seek out one of the more... specialized... paths from the history of the Empyrean."

Nalicana tells you, "You must choose only one specialty path, for when you choose to walk one Path, you lose access to the others."

Nalicana tells you, "This book will explain the details."
Nalicana gives you Luminance, and the Paths of the Empyrean.

Nalicana tells you, "I see that you have not yet chosen to walk one of the more specialized paths yet."

Nalicana tells you, "There are special benefits that can be gained by choosing to follow one of the Seers of the past cultures of the Empyrean."

Nalicana tells you, "The Seer of the Light Falatacot, the Shade of Lady Adja, can be found in the Cathedral of Ithaenc. Her specialties focus on furthering your resistance to damage, and your skill at the skills you have specialized in."

Nalicana tells you, "The Seer of the Dark Falatacot, Ka'hiri, can be found near the town of Sawato. Her specialties focus on furthering your ability to damage others, and your skill at the skills you have specialized in."

Nalicana tells you, "The Seer of the Dericost, Liam of Gelid, can be found in the entrance of Frore. His specialties focus on furthering your ability to damage others, and your ability to critically damage others."

Nalicana tells you, "The Seer of the Haebrean, Lord Tyragar, can be found in Silyun. His specialties focus on furthering your resistance to damage, and your resistance to critical damage."

Nalicana tells you, "As for myself, I will empower any and all who have proven themselves and absorbed the Luminance necessary to empower themselves or items to help them. I recommend also following one of the other, more specialized paths."

Nalicana tells you, "If you wish to leave one specialty path for another, speak with the Seer you wish to follow, and they will tell you what they require in order to induct you onto their Path."

Nalicana tells you, "Be warned: To change one's Path, once chosen, will disrupt your existing attunements to the Light. All of your specialty path auras will fade."

Repeating Quest (No Reward)

Notes

  • There is a six day pickup timer on Battle Lord Gregor's Mnemosyne, but there is no reward for turning it in a second time. In contrast there is a 13 day pickup timer on the note/journal, and the NPC will only accept a turn in once every 13 days.
  • You must have both the note and the journal for the turn in.
  • While the main portion is level restricted to 200+ by the portal, the journal and note are in the open tunnel section before the portal. So you can earn the MFK and 15% of level xp from 1+ (it also gives you luminance but since you cannot flag for it under 200, it doesn't accrue).
