FinallySo yes, I finally registered here so I can contribute here as well. But then I reformatted my computer, and I lost the password I used for the original account, User:Ling Mei, so I had to make a new one, lol. Ling♥Mei 06:21, 11 November 2008 (CST) |
Coords
Coordinates are included, in the 00.0N, 00.0E format, in the names of all minor points of interest. This is mostly because of there being 100s of things like drudge camps, mosswart houses, lugian gatherings, golem shrines, standing stones, and so on. So I changed the obsidian golem vent to reflect this pattern. While it may be the only obsidian golem vent in the game, it is still only a minor point of interest, so it follows the format of all other minor POIs.
As for the heartland portal entry - there are multiple heartland portals in the game. The name Heartland Portal should be, and now is, reserved for the portal itself, while Heartland is reserved for the location it takes you to.
The Obsidian Node Pyramid and Aerbax's citadel are both unique POIs and also quest related. Aerbax's citadel is also major POI.
I understand it may seem arbitrary, but this system arose out of my need for unique article names when adding POIs to Holtburg. The coordinates are listed before the name of POI because on town and geographical area articles, where POIs are listed, it looks better since coordinates are all the same character length long.
As for searching for POIs on the wiki - First, people can still search by name. They may not be taken directly to the POI, but if they search for the correct title they should still get it in the search results. Second, people can easily locate POIs by looking at the listings of nearby towns or in the geographical area listings. Last, people can search for POIs by the things they know to appear there. For example, on the Obsidian Golem page, clicking the locations link brings you to Special:Whatlinkshere/Obsidian_Golem, where 69.8S, 59.7W - Obsidian Golem Vent is now listed. --An Adventurer 11:48, 11 December 2008 (CST)
- Good, glad it makes sense to someone else ;) In most cases, POIs are going to be minor and include coords, because there are hundreds of tiny monster gatherings or empyrean ruins all over dereth, most of them having been their since the game's creation. The only exceptions are larger unique POIs (such as the center of the OP, I changed it to reflect this), unique quest POIs, and POIs that have a unique name (festival stones, the deru trees, and other large named things). --An Adventurer 12:31, 11 December 2008 (CST)
- Give me some time, I've only added the POIs surrounding holtburg and Shoushi ;) That list will fill up quickly with Coordinate listed POIs if I ever have time to finish adding them all. As for renaming major POIs to include coordinates - I didn't include coords in the title for a few reasons: 1) coords were not needed to give the article a unique name, 2) people are going to link to the given name, not coords + name, 3) If the given name only serves as a redirect to the coords + name article, the main article should just not include coords, 4) having them not listed by coords separates them from minor POIs in the Category:Point of Interest listing. So instead, I just include coords when listing them on town/area pages, as I did when I reformatted OP. --An Adventurer 12:57, 11 December 2008 (CST)
Town Criers
Hi, there are two sets of distinct rumors from both the town criers and Ulgrim. The two do not overlap in strict text, they do however overlap in general content. The hints are more vague if no money/stout is given and more specific when it is, for example no money you are told about there's a quest, money you are told the NPC and town as well. In collecting the quotes we organize them alphabetically and by type so it's easier to quickly identify if we have found a new one and can insert it. --Tlosk 14:46, 13 January 2009 (CST)
- Interesting... Still, the "You give Town Crier pyreal" text above every single rumor seems unnecessary, or the "You give Ulgrim Stout" text. It clutters things up, IMO, lol. That's why I took those lines out. Ling♥Mei 00:19, 14 January 2009 (CST)
- You're right, it does look better without them repeated and with the white space removed now that we've moved the other big text sections to the announcements page, I updated the page template so we'll do it that way from now on (I kept the different types segregated). Thanks. --Tlosk 04:57, 15 January 2009 (CST)
