Continuity/Aluvian History

As one of the original playable human heritage groups, the Aluvians have a deep history. This history only expanded as the game progressed. This article is an attempt to lay out the Aluvian back-story at various stages of the game and, if possible, resolve any continuity errors that may arise.

Asheron's Call

This is the period of time from beta leading up to Dark Majesty. When Stormwaltz was writing the text The Reign of Alfrega, he worked out a timeline of Aluvian rulers. By combining the information from the Stormwaltz quote On Aluvian Rulers, The Reign of Alfrega, and the Beta information page on the Aluvian heritage, we can create the following timeline:

AC:DM

With the release of Asheron's Call: Dark Majesty, players were given the AC:DM CD Lore. Among these files was the Ages of the Empyrean, which outlined the history of Auberean. It also contains a few valuable pieces of information regarding the Roulean Calendar:

More information on the issues this creates with continuity can be found at Continuity: Timeline of Ispar - AC:DM. As it relates to our history of Aluvia, though, it doesn't change much except for the "present day" dates of 1311/1321 are invalidated, since those years have yet to pass on Ispar.

The History of Auberean

In early 2003, Turbine released another timeline called The History of Auberean. This new lore confirms that years on Ispar and Auberean are not equal in length. For more on this topic, see Continuity: Roulean Calendar and Portal Years. In regards to Aluvian history, we are presented new information:

Looking at this new information, we can see that the dates created by Stormwaltz in the beta regarding Aluvian history have been retconned. Aluvia was no longer invaded in 804 RC, it was invaded in 704 RC, for example. Below is a table with all dates removed, and the History of Auberean dates added in green highlighted text.

Although it is obvious that the we cannot use the actual dates Stormwaltz created in beta, the time spans may still be useful. Looking at the History of Auberean dates, the reign of Alfrega spans 14 years, just as it did in the beta timeline. With that in mind, let's add the length of the reigns back in, and see how the timeline looks.

It's looking better, but there are still a few issues with this:

First, There is an 11 year gap between the reign of Alfric and the reign of Theolaud. This because the difference between beta dates and History of Auberean dates is not consistant. The difference between the Invasion of Aluvia is 100 years, while the differences in the other dates is 89 years. Since the reign of Theolaud is explicitly stated as lasting 30 years in the Reign of Alfrega, and Stormwaltz has commented that during the beta, he created things out without always considering the broader ramifications, we can reasonably increase the length of the reign of Alfric to cover the gap.

Second, the "present day" era is a little murky. the reign of Cedraic III is supposed to begin 10 years ago from the "present day", but if we stick to the beta timeline, Cedraic III's reign began 68 years ago. Since the beta Aluvian heritage page states that Cedraic is the current king, and Stormwaltz quote states that Cedraic's reign has thus far lasted 10 years, we can reasonably assume that he was the current reigning king of Aluvia in 10 PY (1290 RC) and his reign started 10 years prior.

AC:ToD

With the introduction of the Viamontians as a playable heritage group, the recent history of Ispar changed to account for the recent Viamontian military campaigns. These changes invalidate our placement of Cedraic's reign, but using our conclusions from Continuity: Viamontian History, we can construct the recent history of Aluvia:
