Forum:Color Table for Loot & Quest Armor

On the base of the original DCS color table, extended on Rhesus's page, I'm working on a sortable table for all the armor ingame (see User:Sanddh/Sandbox. This to make tailoring easier, since using the RGB for different Armor styles, different pieces can be matched better. Few questions:

  • The table is getting rather long, since there are over 7,000 colors used ingame. Not all are in the table, but still. How much can the wiki take? If it is not possible to keep it in one table, anyone have a suggestion on how to separate it in different tables?
  • Of course, I will make references to the original sources, but I'm planning to extend the table with the colors I found ingame. To what extent is it problematic when it comes to licenses?
  • The colors not in the table. I use DCS to obtain the AC ID number. Is there anyway to extract the RGB from an item?

Thx! --Sanddh 02:41, 4 September 2011 (EST)

Vtank can give you the hex for colors, select an item then type /vt propertydump to get any info you could possibly want for said item.
This is my olthoi celdon bp:

  • [VTank] Palette Entry 0: ID 0x000485, Ex Color: 393939, 216/24
  • [VTank] Palette Entry 1: ID 0x00044D, Ex Color: A75D00, 186/12
  • [VTank] Palette Entry 2: ID 0x00044D, Ex Color: BE8100, 174/12
  • [VTank] Palette Entry 3: ID 0x001121, Ex Color: 0E0D0C, 174/66
  • [VTank] Palette Entry 4: ID 0x001E30, Ex Color: 323232, 174/33
  • [VTank] Palette Entry 5: ID 0x0015DF, Ex Color: 2D2D2D, 207/33

Thx, it doesn't work 1 to 1 with the DCS-color system (my Slateblack bp (AC ID 1691), with only one color, has hex 000000 in Vtank and 262626 in DCS), but at least it will be an approximation of the colors. Though sometimes it does seem off, using the hex numbers in a graphic proggie and the image I see on screen. Verdalim dyed bunny slippers for example show a far darker shade (050803) by id-ing them with propertydump compared with taking a screening and doing some hovering with a graphics proggie. Playing around with the color palette of my graphics proggie showed that usually putting the light +38 approaches the DCS and the ingame colors more, so I'm using that value for now in the table, and will include the Vtank Palette ID and original hex. --Sanddh 04:20, 4 September 2011 (EST)

Ok, the basics are kinda done, thx to a friend who wrote a quick proggie to split the color channels from the hex. It will still need a huge notes section since I think I reached the limits of what can be done on the wiki without embedding widgets.
The goal still is for players to put in a certain ID/Palette and a tolerance, with the output of one or more IDs/palettes which are within that tolerance, so people can match different armor types and/or quest items, but for now random sorting, the human eye and external color calculators will have to do. It will still be only an approach to what armor will look like ingame, but ah well.
Question is, if it is usable, where to place it. Subpage of tailoring maybe?
