Template talk:Dyed Variations
That looks great, I like the idea of just using the name. There's a parser function that doesn't work right now that would allow us to elegantly display any images that are available and display defaults for any that aren't (instead of the red link text). But it won't be working until after the site upgrade in a few days. Also I was thinking that going forward it might be better if we used nonarbitrary names, for example "Dapper Suit Lapyan" etc., that would keep all the modifiers to unambiguous single words (Dapper Suit Failed being the one exception). I could use a script to update any existing images (also once the upgrade has gone up and some new file handling capabilities are available). Then we could just put {{Dyed Variations|Name}} in the template for any items that are dyeable and it would automatically display any images as we add them. Oh and you can leave the template itself uncategorized and just add a link on the Wiki Templates page, they pass on categories where they're used since unlike page templates where the code is copied, the page itself is transcluded. The category just needs to be inside the noinclude tags. --Tlosk 16:53, 9 March 2009 (CDT)
- Thx. I agree the naming should be unambiguous, and the names of the dye plants should be used. Unfortunately, I already put in quite a few dye-tables before I developed the template, and uploaded a lot of icons & images. Since simply renaming the images is not an option (or at least not available to me), I was stuck with the old names. But with a script, that problem could be solved :). The fact that the parser function just doesn't work right now explains some of my frustration today ;). I eagerly await the update.. --Sanddh 0:30, 10 March 2009 (CET)
- The template can now be included on all item pages that are dyeable as the template checks for images and displays if present, or the default image if not.--Tlosk 13:17, 21 May 2009 (UTC)
