What's more effective protection?

Question Title: What's more effective protection?
Category: Magic
Question: Devilmouse quoted in the "Armor & Banes vs magic" thread,

Physical armor does not protect against magical spell attacks. Your only defense for these spells are the series of 7 life magic protections.

So I ask, do the magical protections help against physical attacks; if I know that a bone knight is going to smack me down with his acid sword, is it more effective to get good acid protection armor (or acid bane not-so-good armor), or just cast Acid Protection Self?

...because if armor doesn't help vs magic, but magic helps vs physical attacks...I may be going to fight in my birthday suit once I get life magic soon here...

Answer: Yes, the life protections also help against physical elemental attacks. So put up your acid banes on your armor and cast your acid protection and you shall laugh at physical acid dmg.
