I have played Asheron's Call on and off since April 2005. I played first on the Verdantine server under the moniker of Qorta, but then moved to Darktide in April 2010 under the new name of Shade of Lars. I plan to move to the Verdantide server in April 2015 under the name of Shade of Qorta.

This creature was once Cervyn Lars, a man of Haebrous in the Vacari Eipoth. He was one of the first to be consumed by the Black Rains and the rising tide of darkness, pulled under Ilservian's banner driven by his hatred of the Northern Church. But that was soon forgotten. At one point, his note of individuality allowed him to be pulled under the sway of the traitor Isin Dule and for a long time there he was not even a shade. But through the science of Aerbax he was reborn. The Shade of Lars is a creature of the purest essence of the Kemeroi. He now has his mind, but it is driven by only vengeance, the desire to mercilessly destroy. He only remembers being slain and reformed perpetually over the thousands of years in which he did not even have a mind. By the Isparians, by the Yalaini, by his own people, there was none who showed him any mercy. The memories of that suffering haunt him. He does not even have mercy for Dule or his shadowy allies, as he believes they merely deny the reality of their condition. They cling to their names. But he knows that it has been eons since he was Cervyn Lars. He is but a Shade of Lars. And he will have his revenge.

Qorta is an odd name for a Sho, and while it is clear that this was once was not his name, he does not reveal how he received it. Only that it means 'coward'. It is with this name that Qorta entered Dereth, ecstatic at entering a new world, thus leaving any indiscretions behind him. But Qorta is a creature of weakness, hence his brand. He found power in Dereth, and was consumed by it. First he was among the Chiran Jou Gai, but they cast him out, his mad drive for power in contradiction of the Unicorn's precepts. Then he found refuge among the Rossu Morta, kindred villainy. For a time, following the release of Grael and the fall of Count Dardante, Qorta was awakened to the pursuit of power that threatened to devour his soul. He joined the Celestial Hand and once more tried to forget his past. But fate is cruel, and as he attempted to reform, he found an item, the Ring of Channeling. It was an artifact out of his own past, a dark weapon that consumed the life-force of its wielder in exchange for more power. Its whispers in the back of his mind broke his attempts to control himself, and he once more became Qorta, the Burning Soul. The Hand behind him, he fell into the festering blood of Nuhmudira. Any goodness is forgotten.
